Alfi shouted Goa, Sumit said Kabini, Mathew wanted Munnar,  and me Tada falls and lots of other places and after a lot of discussion we settled to a place called Vedanthangal, a 2 hour drive from Chennai. It’s a bird sanctuary. To be frank, we wanted a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. The drive was smooth thanks to the excellent national highway. For a change, we did not experience any jerks nor did potholes come in our way. We stopped in between to relieve ourselves and to take some nice snaps in the railway tracks that came on our way. We carried some pizzas and fruit drinks to please our hunger. The weather was sunny, but turned cloudy as we drove nearer to our destination.

It was a great site for us to sight some greenery. What a great relief from the usual dusty and smoky roads in Chennai. For a change our lungs experienced some pure and fresh air. The paddy and the sugarcane fields really were a treat to watch.

We entered the sanctuary at around 1 pm. Rs.5 per head was the entry fee and Rs.25 for the cameras. We bought the tickets and entered. It wasn’t quite crowded as we had expected on a Sunday. We climbed the watch tower and spotted some birds. We spend around 30 minutes watching the birds chattering and chirping. We spotted herons, pelicans and other birds. me and sumit a the Pizza corner

Once we came down from the watch tower, monkeys greeted us by hanging and jumping from one place to another. At around 2.30 our stomach started giving us signals of hunger. We realized that it was time for some pizzas and came out. Pizzas were over in a just 5 minutes. Meanwhile we spotted some good guava as and bought time for our return drive. We four were happy that our 12 months of planning has started yielding fruits. Now we are planning for Kodaikanal. Let’s see how much time we take to reach our new destination … I hope very soon. Once we reached the city, we stopped the car to celebrate our first travel, with a smoke and we all shouted Hurray! We have named our group Sulekha Hopper’s. The Sulekha Hopper’s team consists of Mathew Babu (Maths) the guy with a great smile and spectacles, Sumit Banerjee (Dada), the handsome guy, spotting a red T-shirt, Alfred (Alfi), smart dude from Mumbai with a green T-shirt and myself Vaidyanathan (YD), dressed completely in my favorite color black.. Special thanks to Mathew for bringing the car and Sumit, who constantly planned and planned for the last 12 months and made this trip a successful one. Keep an eye on this space for more travelogues from Sulekha Hopper’s … Guys when r we going next…?
